Office Cleanliness in the Age of Coronavirus
We are living through an unprecedented and uncertain time. Many people are stuck at home as work has shut down. Many people are working from home for the first time. And a great many workers are still out there, keeping essential services up and running for us. No matter where you’re working from right now, Loyal Workplace Hygiene Solutions is ready to help and to provide real guidance for keeping your workspace clean and sanitary to reduce the risk of infection.
1. Urge Proper Hand Washing Techniques
Make sure all restrooms, break rooms and other rooms with sinks where people can wash their hands have full, operational hand soap dispensers. Make sure all employees understand correct hand washing techniques: lather up fingers, thumbs, between fingers, under fingernails, back and palms of the hands and wrists for at least 20-30 seconds. Rinse thoroughly, then use an elbow or single-use paper towel to shut off the water. Use a separate paper towel to completely dry the hands and exit the room without touching anything. Make sure the paper towel dispensers are full and well maintained at all times.
2. Provide Hand Sanitizer Dispensers
In areas where there are no sinks or other ways to wash hands, be sure to post hand sanitizer dispensers in common areas. Loyal Hygiene provides hand sanitizer that contains at least 60 percent alcohol content, as recommended by the CDC for commercial use.
3. Sanitize Commonly-touched Areas Often
Wipe down counters, light switches, doorknobs, handles, desks, computer keyboards, mobile devices, phones, sink faucet handles, refrigerator door handles, etc. down frequently.
4. Encourage Employees Not to Touch Their Faces at All
Without penalizing or making people feel bad, post reminders and encourage everyone to avoid touching their faces. This is one of the primary ways that germs make it into our systems. It can be hard to avoid, since it’s a very human thing to do. If you have an itchy nose, use a tissue and discard it immediately in the nearest trash can. Make tissues and trash cans easily accessible for all employees.

5. Make it Easier for Sick Employees to Stay Home
Create policies and assistance to allow sick employees to stay home so they are not coming in and spreading germs. Consider adopting telecommuting policies and stagger the number of employees coming in so as to help them maintain proper spatial distance of 6 feet between people.
6. Encourage Proper Cough and Sneeze Etiquette
Train employees to cough or sneeze into a tissue. If they can’t make it to a tissue in time, make sure everyone knows to sneeze or cough into the crook of their elbows and to turn away from other people or surfaces commonly touched by other people. Again, reinforce the frequent, proper hand washing protocols.
7. Building Cleaning and Maintenance
Extra measures to reduce contaminants and germs are essential during this critical time. Sign up for our floor mat rental service to have dirty entryway floor mats regularly switched out for clean ones. Our floor mop rental service also ensures that you have clean mop heads and buckets so that your janitorial service is getting your floors clean and sanitary. Every action counts as we try to contain the spread of COVID-19.
